Hapkido

Hapkido is the Korean martial art of self defense and combat. The name literally means "joining-energy-way" and conceptually is translated as "The way of coordinated power" or "the way of harmony". Hapkido does not reply on size or strength for its effectiveness, but rather uses timing, body dynamics, and centered movements relying on physics, geometry and physiology.

Practitioners of hapkido gain a powerful system of self-defense. By training cooperatively, even potentially lethal techniques can be practiced without substantial risk. It must be emphasized that there are no shortcuts to proficiency in hapkido. Consequently, attaining proficiency in hapkido is simply a matter of sustained and dedicated training.

Hapkido classes follow the curriculum set forth by the Taipan Martial Art Association. Taipan Hapkido is an eclectic style which incorporates the redirection of force found in Aikido, the grappling skills found in Ju-Jitsu, the throwing and take down skills found in Judo, along with the kicking and striking techniques of Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai. By practicing Hapkido a person develops techniques for self defense to immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a grappling maneuver or force an opponent to submit by joint locking or through targeted striking. Adults training together safely in friend and family atmosphere. You can expect a fun and enlightening first class with plenty of help and guidance from the instructor & senior ranks. We proudly welcome new practioners as with any other activity we allow time for your body & mind to adapt to the new skills and movements.
